About Me

Polyester

Many piano manufacturers now use polyester finishes to achieve the hi-gloss look that is popular these days.
Polyester is a plastic gel coat that demands a special type of repair.
A bad scrape on the fallboard to a Yamaha grand piano necessitates scraping out the affected area prior to adding the polyester liquid. Catalyzed poly liquid is added. The surrounding area is taped to avoid over-sanding and then, using a variety of progressively finer grits, the hardened polyester is sanded level.
Sanding is completed. A variety of polishing compounds is applied with a felt-backed block After polishing with the final, finest compound, the repair is completed.
